Did you know that Edgar Allan Poe wrote more than creepy and horrifying tales?
He is one of America's foremost authors not only for his prose but also for his poetry.
Still, he has yet another honor which most readers are unaware of; Edgar Allan Poe is the father of the modern detective story.
Yes, it's true. You will meet the first modern detective in our first three selections.
This dectective was the inspiration behind Sherlock Holmes and, in my opinion, Hercule Poirot.
Our fourth selection explores conscience and is more a "traditional" Poe story, however it is a very apt description of the forces that frustrate us.
And I've always liked the cunning involved in the murder.
These stories explore both Poe's literary talent and his range.
He was truly one of this country's greatest writers.
